The communications channels have been distinctly down for the last few weeks, nary a tweet, a blog post, a textual missive, nothing. Until today. We have just received word that Mother Prioress fell afoul of a rather suave timeshare salesman who talked the great woman herself into signing a document jeopardising the convent here in England. Sister Varicella, a younger octoagenerian, tells us that after a frank exchange of views, a spell in a Spanish prison, and several visits from diocesan legal representatives, that all charges have now been dropped. None of the sisters even knew mother had learned ju jitsu. All sisters are now enjoying the fifth jug of sangria and what mother says is a proper holiday.

Y viva España #3
Report comes to us in the form of a rather rum Facebook status update, that Sister Evangelica has not laughed harder in years, possibly centuries. It would seem that one of the portlier sisters, feeling plucky and adventury on their trip to the water park, braved one of the slides but got stuck in the tube. Apparently it took several of the smaller nuns, sent in like chimney sweeps under the matronly guidance of Mother Prioress, to free up the blockage.
Today, we have another Canon’s bonete, though here with a green tassel, as is also an acceptable custom in Spain.

Y viva España # 2
Late last night we received a secretive text from one of the younger nuns (secretive since Mother Prioress banned possession of mobile phones when she caught a sister playing Angry Birds during vespers) saying they’d arrived safe and sound and made a beeline for the church of Santa Maria Stella Maris, apart from Mother Prioress, who made a beeline for a pint of stella.
So in our run of hats we turn our attentions to the Spanish Canon, here shown with what we unabashedly trumpet as frankly magnificent plumage.

All I want for Christmas...
... is a Spanish Biretta with a tree in the middle of it. This is for a Spanish Philosophy Degree, apparently, thus explaining the need for a large brush on the top and a cascading fringe effect. And why not, we ask ourselves?
Put more respectfully and sensibly here:
Portrait of D. Juan Benlloch, seminarian graduate in Theology, Valencia, with Roman habit, white satin cape (muceta blanca), ring (anillo) and remarkable laureate bonete with silk fringe and handle / garland.
Ohhhh, so it's a handle...
