Bespoke Clerical Millinery for the Discerning Clergyman

Monday 28 March 2011

Blue Monday

A brief sojourn into Anglican Waters and we find this example, a simple biretta similar to the ICKSP Biretta previously shown, save for its black watered silk outer. It belongs to the superior of the College of Our Lady of Hanworth, West London, to be worn on occasions of mourning, and feasts and Masses of the Blessed Virgin Mary during Lent and Advent.

Mother superior has just looked at us askance with the cautionary words that lying is a grievous sin. So ok, we made up the things about mourning and Lent. We were only speculating, but we’ve a run of OLH Birettas coming up and frankly it’s the best explanation we or any of the sisters can manage for this modest example (it was an early prototype).

  2. Many thanks for your link.

Our Blog is almost exclusively about the Biretta, which may be used in both the Extraordinary and Ordinary forms of the Catholic Liturgy, as well as by Anglicans and those of other denominations (to a lesser extent).

It is not our intention to discriminate between groups, but we welcome any blog which appreciates the beauty of tradition and heritage of the Christian Faith in its Catholic expression, and warmly encourage our readers to experience and read up on this subject. As a witness to traditional worship we welcome your blog and look forward to reading what you have to say in coming weeks and months.

    With every best wish,

    Team DB

  3. As a bit of a clarification...

When speaking of the Institute of Christ the King, the post nominals are ICRSS, not ICKSP. They use the Latin, not the English.

It may seem like minutae, but it is a distinction.
