"A Papal Biretta!” We hear you cry. Not quite. For here is the biretta of the Regular Canons of the Premonstratensian (Norbertine) order. You’d be half right, though, as it is also worn by the Canons of St John Lateran, the Cathedral Church of the Diocese of Rome and Cathedra of the Holy Father.
Back to the hat, most Nobertines have no tuft, but some wear a white one and others a black one. The lining is white silk.
Very nice biretta! The white headcoverings of the Praemonstratesians are really beautiful.
ReplyDeleteIt IS beautiful. I've never seen anyone wearing it, however.
